ARTISTJim Lamalfa

James LaMalfa was born in Milwaukee in 1937. He attended UW Madison as an art major, graduating with an MFA in 1961. He taught at UW Eau Claire, Wittenberg University and was hired by UW Green Bay to teach at its branch campus, UW Marinette in 1969. He taught at that campus until retiring in 2013.

He remains active as an artist and teacher, teaching for the Life Long Learning Institiute-UW Green Bay. Many of his sculptures can be seen in local public areas, including “The Great Wave” near the entrance of Marinette Marine; a three-panel mural for the Menominee City Hall depicting the harvesting of wild rice; and a 40-foot steel relief honoring the founder of Theatre on the Bay, Herb Williams.
