First Street Gallery is looking for artists whose work and resume clearly demonstrate professional quality and outstanding
workmanship. Applicants must live in Northern Wisconsin or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as a permanent or part-time resident.
Membership is granted through a juried selection process to ensure high quality art that complements and enhances thegallery’s existing body of work. Applicants must value hard work and integrity, work well with others and be committed to their personal development as artists. Applicants must also want to be an integral part of the cooperative as a businessand with the growth of the gallery into the future. First Street Art Gallery is a business and therefore we need to make at least enough money to cover our bills. Our income comes from sales. It is necessary then to have high quality artwork suited to our particular market.
Our final decisions are based on several factors in addition to quality. We consider the medium in which you work, the current representation of that medium in the gallery and what space is available, as our space is limited. Artists must also be capable of producing enough work to meet demand. We also consider whether we have the right audience for your work. You will receive our full consideration, and we thank you for your interest in our gallery.
Upon acceptance, new members will be contacted by the president of the gallery for further instruction and payment information. Also, upon acceptance the $20 Jury Fee will be applied to the dues owed (see Schedule A). The Jury Fee is otherwise nonrefundable.
Classes of Membership:
- Working Membership: Members who pay dues per Schedule A and agree to clerk at the gallery.
- Alternate Working Membership: Members who pay dues per Schedule A and do not clerk at the gallery but routinely perform other duties necessary for the operations of the gallery, and to the equivalent of clerking hours.
- Non-Working Membership: Members who pay dues per Schedule A, and who do not have requirements to work roles as clerk or operations of the gallery.
